Sewer hose may fall out when the compartment hatch pops open

On our first night, it appears someone took our sewer hose. Is the compartment door always unlocked? Do I need the OEM replacement, or would another hose suffice?

I mean the sewer hose used to attach to the tank and dump station. Pebble wants $300 for it, and I'm wondering whether I can use something else.
The hatch can pop open, then slam closed. Tug the hatch; if you can open it without pushing the release, the hose probably fell out on the road. Pebble overnighted us a free replacement and sent a mobile technician to fix the hatch. It is a known problem.
Unfortunately I already implied it was stolen. That's good to know. I really wish there were a lock, but I guess I'll have to eat the $300 for now. It did seem like an odd thing to take in a nice neighborhood.
We put childproof latches on ours to be sure it is secure. If Pebble offers a locking door with a key, I would pay to upgrade. No other RV uses that type of hose, so I doubt it was stolen, but you never know.
I would ask Pebble to replace it. This has happened multiple times, and they did not question ours. Put the new one in a plastic container until the hatch is fixed.

Was the sewer hose in the compartment or outside? Are you sure it did not fall out on the road? If you mean the hatch, I would love a lock on that door—we lost our first sewer hose on the freeway when the hatch popped open. After Pebble fixed the door, it still feels not well latched and rattles.
It was parked outside a relative's house. I can't say with 100% certainty whether it fell out or was stolen.
