Caution: Pebble’s first stair step is 11.5 inches down
The powered stairs on the Pebble are convenient and sturdy, but I advise caution, especially when descending from the coach.
We are accustomed to standard stair-step heights of around 7 inches. The first step down from the Pebble is 11 1/2 inches. Ascending is less of an issue because you can see the height to be climbed; descending is another matter. We’re not generally watching the steps as we descend, and combined with the lack of a fixed handhold because the door swings, a misstep is possible.
My spouse did exactly that last week and has a cracked rib as a result.
I don’t have a remedy beyond awareness. I attached a shower grab bar beside the door as a simple aid. I’m not ready to drill holes, so I chose a suction-cup mount. It is sturdy but not designed for exterior use, so I’ll tug-test it regularly. At some point I’ll install a permanent grab bar.
