Pebble asks owners to inspect rooftop solar panels for damage

Pebble reports that a small number of owners have reported rooftop solar-panel damage. Inspections so far have found no immediate safety concern, with reported damage limited to the panel itself. Pebble is investigating with the panel supplier and arranging replacements for affected owners.

Owners should inspect rooftop panels. If you notice damage, discoloration, or dark marks, do not touch the panel. Contact Pebble support at 866-732-2518 or support@pebblelife.com for next steps, including safe disconnection if needed.

Pebble support said a standard household outlet does not have enough capacity to run the AC and charge the battery at the same time, and that a higher-capacity circuit such as 30A is needed for both. I do not understand why charging cannot go straight to the battery while the battery runs the AC.

When connected to shore power, incoming power operates vehicle loads first and any remaining power charges the battery. A standard 120V outlet supplies about 1.5 kW continuously. If loads consume that amount, there is no remaining power to charge; if loads exceed it, the battery supplies the difference.

My confusion is with the app display. If all 1.5 kW from shore power is used by the AC, I would expect Energy Flow to show that power entering the Pebble and going to the AC. Instead it appears no power is coming in. Is that a display limitation or a known engineering issue?

All my lights turned on by themselves, the heat pump turned off, and the fridge beeped. It was 100% charged on hookups. I wonder whether that was a voltage-regulator event.

Was this caused by an automatic software update? Since yours was plugged in, the behavior may have been different.

Is the takeaway that the battery and solar capacity are not sufficient for typical customer use in practice?

A household 120V plug is not typical customer use. In practice, a Pebble is usually plugged into a campground 30A or 50A circuit, a Level 2 home charger, or a commercial DC fast charger.

At a campground, 120V shut off after charging an EV and using the hot-water heater. The Pebble reached 50% and shut down all 120V, then later recovered. I have a support call in.

You can use campground 30A if the adapter is TT-30. With 30A service set at 24A, preserving 40% state of charge can bring the Pebble to 100% overnight with normal household use.

I have not found a 30A campground adapter that works with the Pebble.

Pebble sent guidance on checking whether a 30A adapter works. Some supplied adapters did not work and Pebble will replace them.

A larger battery or more solar would involve trade-offs in space, weight, and cost. For now, the solar helps and I will work with the battery size I have.

I will use 50A for the EV tonight and 120V for the trailer. Three 30A adapters—from Tesla, Amazon, and Pebble—did not work.

Avoid running the Pebble below 10–12% state of charge. I wish there were a setting to turn off Easy Tow before that point.

With that failure rate, I wondered whether the pedestal was bad, but I have had the same issue at multiple sites.

With only 120V plugged in, power seems to dip and the AC slows down and fans shut off. It may be best not to run on only 120V.

After unplugging 120V, the outlets and microwave still were not working well. The DC-to-AC converter may be an issue; service will look at it later.

How did you charge your tow vehicle at the RV spot?

At 50A service, I charge the Pebble until bedtime, then move the charger to the tow vehicle. On 30A service, it is generally not worth trying to charge the tow vehicle overnight.

The Quebec City KOA has a free Level 2 EV charger, 30A service, shuttle service to the old city, pool, laundry, and an IGA grocery store nearby.

I got that error twice when Easy Tow was out of power. The next time I used the trailer, the error was gone.

My Pebble was at 81% state of charge when I got that error.

We had that drive-motor error once a week after pickup. Cycling the parking brake while on the phone with support resolved it, and it has not returned in 5,000 miles.
