Carrying a spare tire for remote Pebble travel

I wanted a spare because we travel beyond the reach of roadside assistance, where a damaged tire could mean leaving the Pebble in a remote place while hunting for repair or replacement. It's a monster, though, and carrying it requires some thought. For this trip, it's on a rack above the bed of my tow vehicle.

Indeed. Getting it down and heaving a flat up there will be a problem if, hopefully never, the occasion arises. In 150K miles of trailer travel, I had one blowout, so statistically it is a low-probability, high-consequence event, and these are much tougher tires. The hydraulic jacks on the Pebble make changing a wheel easier.
