Using Fresh Air, recirculation, and HVAC controls

The HVAC is much improved since we took delivery last November. In that early version, it would do a full-throttle switch from heat to cool at the set temp: “Hey honey, can you turn down the heat a bit?” Sure—BAM—arctic blast! I had a good bit of correspondence with Pebble on this and they made improvements. I hope the next version does offer day/night scheduling. I’ve also suggested a dehumidification mode.

We’ve also found the Fresh Air feature (available from the bedroom switch, not on the iPad—why not?) to be very useful. I’ve used it on hot tows to keep interior temp down. We’ve also run the HVAC for the last 30 minutes of a tow to condition the cabin. It’s great to be able to initiate that from the tow vehicle on the iPad or iPhone.

Bathroom temp and humidity is another issue. We keep the gray door latch lever down to hold the door open an inch for circulation with the vent fan on. The Pebble self-levels so well that the door doesn’t swing unintentionally.

It would logically be in the AeroBox, but I’m in travel-camping mode and not intentionally taking things apart.

One thing to keep in mind is that pushing the Fresh Air button will turn off the cabin temperature button in the app. I’ve already reported that issue, as sometimes I just want the air to blow but don’t want to pull in hot air during the summer.

On the iPad, you can turn on just the fan and it is called Recirculate Air. You can also change the fan speed. That’s equivalent to the Fresh Air button by the bed. 😜

But I agree, climate and humidity control in the bathroom is a problem. If you keep the bathroom door closed and the AC is on in the cabin, then open the bathroom door, you get hit by a blast of hot, moist air.

Pretty sure recirculate means just that: recirculate inside air, much like in an automobile. Fresh brings in outside air at ambient temp.

You can do the same as the Fresh Air button on the iPad on the Cabin Temp page by:

Turning off the AC
Setting the fan speed to 1
Setting Recirculate to “Fresh” (tap the button once it’s on and it toggles between Recirculate and Fresh).

If you watch that page when you hit the physical button, you can see it make the same changes.

On second thought, is Recirculate Air just moving inside air while the Fresh Air button brings in outside air? Now I want to know how each of those systems work.

That is the purpose of Fresh Air: to bring in outside air at outside temperature without cooling or heating it. I use it extensively. It saves energy and negates the need to open windows or the door when you want outside air without outside noise or dust.

According to Pebble support:

The Fresh Air function pulls fresh air in from outside to circulate the air in the travel trailer. It does not engage the A/C compressor, making it suitable for use while sleeping.

You can control it using the bedside switchpack in the Room Flip area, alongside the controls for Lights and Windows.

Disappointingly, I don’t find evidence of a cabin air filter in the HVAC system.

The cabin air filter is inside the indoor unit behind the panel below the stove. Getting to it to change it is not easy. Apparently, they intended it to only be changed during yearly maintenance.

Thanks. That panel fell off early in this trip and is now held in place by Velcro, so mine will be easy to access.

Fresh Air intake is just below the sink area, right next to the low-point plumbing drains. This is also the area where the HVAC condensate drain hose is.

I’d also like to pinpoint the two sources of condensate created by the Pebble HVAC. Water just seems to trickle down across the trailer frame and puddle not necessarily where I would prefer. It would be nice if it has a pinpoint source and could be captured or rerouted, but it may just be dripping off HVAC components.

I think the owner above is right, though let us know. I’m guessing the Fresh Air button is only by the bed (and desk area, too?) for a tech or energy reason. Maybe it was an excellent afterthought. I loved it camping when it was 80 during the day and in the 50s at night!

Don’t you think there has to be a filter on any air systems except the shower/stove vent? I love a mystery and won’t worry about it until about a year of ownership.

Just finished filling my trench where we ran 50-amp service at home to my Pebble! I’m so excited it’s embarrassing. Finally home for an extended period and happy to get into the mods and decorating.

Fresh Air is on the iPad. If you touch in the middle of the “Recirculate Air” button, it toggles between Recirculation and Fresh.

It is confusing, but that “Fresh Air” vs. Recirculation is when using heat or air conditioning. Notice that it is available only with Climate active. The bedroom-switch Fresh Air does not run the heat pump.
