First impressions after several Pebble Flow camping trips

Now that we have taken a few weekend camping trips with the Flow, our experience has been overwhelmingly positive and we see an exciting future of adventure traveling thanks to Pebble. We are excited to be a part of something new and different and cannot wait to take our next adventure.

Pebble first impressions

• Pre-order: Having used similar pre-order processes with Tesla and Rivian, this felt familiar and worked well for us. Waiting was the hardest part.
• Community Day: We really appreciated the opportunity to connect with the Pebble team, prototype models, and other members of the emerging Pebble community at the new Fremont HQ. It reminded me of early Tesla days in Fremont—delivery and factory tours.
• Ordering: Simple, online, used Stripe for deposit. We appreciated having pictures and descriptions of various items, but we also had the benefit of seeing the Flow in person and interacting with Pebble staff about various elements. Without seeing it in person, I can see how I might be apprehensive about wanting to know more about certain things. Similar to Tesla and Rivian ordering experiences when products hadn’t been released yet.
• Delivery: Amazing people with great knowledge, service, and belief in the product. Once the order deposit was made, Pebble staff reached out and supported me through the final stage of production and delivery, and continue to support me as a Pebble Founder.
• Every personal interaction that I have had with Pebble to date has been incredible. From a customer perspective, there seems to be a great culture at Pebble. Professionally and personally, I approach most things with a problem-solving mindset and you can see this is also woven into the Pebble culture—with their product and their people.

Flow first impressions

For reference, our small family is me, mom, a six-year-old, and a miniature dachshund. For the past five years, we have been traveling around the Western US with an Airstream. A few years ago we switched our tow vehicle from a Ford F-250 to a Rivian R1T and have been looking forward to finding an EV travel trailer. We are not new to EV life; besides the R1T, I have been daily driving an EV since 2015. Both of our initial trips were to nearby Northern California campsites in late summer with no hookups.

• The Flow truly delivers on “the future of travel.” Having spent many years with a legacy travel trailer, I see many parallels to my experiences with Apple, Tesla, Rivian, and Porsche, where good design has solved problems many in the travel-trailer space have been scratching their heads over for years. Our family loved our Airstream, but I can’t imagine going back to a legacy RV.
• Great size for our needs—both interior space and overall footprint.
• The tech is legit, reliable, and safe—truly improved our workflows for hitching and getting camp set up/broken down.
• iPad controls: Very good app design and functionality. In some situations, I would rather have a phone vs. iPad; however, that is in the works. I can fit the iPad into my back pocket or side pocket most of the time, so I end up doing that if I’m outside and want to be hands-free.
• Magic Hitch: Works great and saves so much time and energy. On asphalt and hard-packed dirt it has worked 100% of the time. In campgrounds with soft dirt, sand, or rocks, it is more cautious and might time out due to safety thresholds, such as uneven terrain—then you just try again or can take over. One thing I didn’t think of was the time saving/convenience of my wife and son packing up the truck or getting settled while I hitch up the trailer. Instead of the “move the truck backward” dance, the trailer comes to the truck. We can do things in parallel rather than in sequence—a big difference when it is over 100 degrees outside or there is a downpour.
• InstaCamp and AutoDump: Again, work great and save so much time and energy. I can’t go back to legacy RV life without these. In addition, I don’t need to travel with all the extra accessories, so it’s simpler to pack and store things.
• Remote Control: I could just play with remote control all day and all night. Works better than I thought. Game changer for campsite placement.
• Room Flip: Initially we were wondering if we would miss a dedicated bedroom; however, with a small child, Room Flip has been great. We have appreciated having both a bedroom/lounge and open, walkable space with desk and storage. It’s a great staging area before going out or after coming back from adventures. The bed/lounge setup has been great for sleeping and watching movies or playing video games with the projector. We were able to comfortably lounge with three people and a small dog—more room for me than my previous queen bed in the Airstream (I’m 6'2").
• Refrigerator: We have enjoyed using the fridge and freezer, a big upgrade from what we are used to. It has worked great keeping things cold/frozen and works all the time—even in the heat without hookups (over 105° on Labor Day weekend).
• Kitchen: We have enjoyed using the galley kitchen and appreciate having more counter space than our Airstream. There is less storage; however, we haven’t taken long enough trips yet where this might be an issue.
