Solved: This was user error. The way we were stowing the tow cables was blocking the camera. We replicated the issue and realized we just had to move the cable, and Magic Hitch worked fine.
We were getting ready to leave for Memorial Day weekend, and Magic Hitch suddenly stopped working. We tried with the aero box up and down, but it refused to cooperate.
Maybe try to reboot the iPad and then try Magic Hitch. If it still doesn’t work, I’d try rebooting the Pebble as well.
Is the camera dirty by chance? I would imagine if the view is obscured by dirt or chains dangling in front, it cannot see the hitch ball. Had it happen to me at night once.
We’ve had Magic Hitch glitch on us a few times, and it was always the extra loops of wire for the 7-pin connector getting into the view. We’ve added a step on our checklist to make sure those are pushed back from the camera before we start the process. I also check that the lens is clean while I’m down there.
Thanks, we'll definitely try that next time. Our driveway is a little bit of an incline. We've Magic Hitched on it before, but maybe not in as steep a section? Maybe the camera angle was wrong?
We were able to Magic Hitch just fine on the flat later that day.
The aero box position should have essentially no impact on Magic Hitch success rates. Make sure the camera in the coupler isn’t obstructed by dirt or cables. If you’re using Magic Hitch at night, consider pointing a flashlight toward the hitch ball to help the Flow find it.
I think our problem was the slope of the driveway. We had no problem with Magic Hitch for the rest of our trip. We used Magic Hitch a dozen or more times as we tried to find a charger that would work with the Pebble.

One simple way to tell if the camera may be obstructed is that the Magic Hitch button will not light up, even when you’re close to the hitch ball.
