I’ve only owned my Pebble for less than three weeks and have already taken it out three times. The convenience features like Instacamp, Magic Hitch, and Autodump make camping so much easier than a traditional trailer.
This is my first RV, though I have extensive tent-camping experience and frequently camp alongside friends who own traditional RVs. Even they’ve been amazed by how quickly I can arrive at a site and get fully set up. While features like remote control and the smart windows initially seemed like gimmicks, they’ve proven genuinely useful in practice.
I think the Pebble maxes out at 45 kW charging right now.
A previous Pebble technology walkthrough pushed me over the edge to put down my deposit on a Pebble. I was on the fence between Pebble and another option, and the walkthrough solidified my decision. Maybe test how long the unit can last boondocking to see how the battery and tanks hold up?
I'm full-timing in mine and would love to share my experiences.
I have had my Pebble since April but only have two weekend trips under my belt. We tow with a Silverado EV RST, so I think I'm in the minority rather than part of the Cybertruck or Rivian crowd.
We'll be taking the Pebble across the country to Canada, Prince Edward Island, and other places in late summer.
We love the Pebble. We have had a bit of a punch list, but Pebble has been pretty good about shipping parts and sending a mobile technician to fix things.
I am really interested in testing the Pebble with 350 kW-and-higher DC fast chargers. It doesn't seem to like Alpitronic 400s and some 350s. On our last trip we tried four different chargers before finally charging the Pebble at an old EVgo 100 kW charger. Good thing we charged the truck at one of the other chargers, because that slow 100 would have taken 4.5 hours to charge the Silverado EV.
Yep, it charges like my old Bolt. But I want a fast charger for the big Silverado EV battery, and I don't want to have to go to two places. I want to charge them both at once. Thirty minutes at 350 kW is so much better than 4.5 hours at 100 kW to charge the Silverado!
100 kW should charge the Silverado RST in around two hours, maybe 2.5 hours if charging to 100%, since the curve will ramp down to 50 after 85%. Still slower than 400 kW units, but it might come in handy when going across Canada. There’s no technical reason the Pebble can’t use 350/400 kW units, so hopefully the handshake issues get resolved. It will be interesting to see what the charging logs reveal.
The EVgo app told me 4.5 hours to charge the Silverado. We were at about 12% state of charge. I didn't look at it closely, so maybe that was too long? Even 2.5 hours charging is a long time on a road trip. We never charge much past 80% while on the road. I hope they get the handshake fixed also. I want charging options on the road.
Do you think Pebble can pull the data on my charging sessions remotely?
Yes, Pebble can pull logs from the onboard computers. The telemetry systems collect data about the batteries, motors, charging, HVAC, and more for troubleshooting and product improvement through software updates. There’s a dedicated cellular antenna on the roof that provides connectivity back to the servers.
That's both unnerving and comforting! I'd be curious to know what Pebble finds from my Memorial Day trip. We couldn't charge at two places on Friday and one place on Sunday. I know EVgo is supposed to be vetted, but one of the failures was an EVgo 350.
We are hoping to find time this weekend to try some local chargers. We need this sorted before we head out on a long trip.
To be clear, I don't work for Pebble; I'm just another owner who has spent a lot of time looking under the hood, so to speak. I recommend calling the phone-support team while at a charger where you're having difficulty. This gives them an opportunity to gather additional information and testing, and they may be able to resolve the issue immediately.
A previous Pebble discussion at CES greatly influenced my decision to purchase the Pebble. I’ll be interested in the thoughts after living with it for a couple of weeks.
Pebble recently sent a technician from California to take care of a few issues on the only two units so far in Florida. I was very impressed with the follow-up support across the country. The technician also installed several hardware upgrades and fixes that Pebble had identified as possible issues from customer feedback. I was impressed and pleased to see that proactive approach toward a customer’s investment.
Sorry, I thought you were a Pebble engineer. We did call both the charge-point operator and Pebble. The charge-point operator wasn't much help.
