Is a loud, clunking water pump normal?

Has anyone noticed that their water pump is loud? When I am running water it clunks on and off with some vibration. I am not sure if I'm being overly sensitive, or if that is the way it should work?

RV water pumps are always loud, but we found ours to be exceptionally loud when we first picked it up. Thankfully, it got significantly quieter after we ran about two tanks of water through the system (about the same as our previous trailer's pump).
It seems like it just needed some break-in time.
