Why must the Murphy bed be stowed before towing?

Why does the Murphy bed need to be stowed to tow? It would be nice if it could be left down for travel so there is less cleanup between brief stays.

Pebble told me it is better for the shock to be in the up position so it does not wear out as fast.
I think it bounces and would break the little wood supports. They'd need to add a lock in the down position for travel if they wanted to do that. That's my guess.
