Questions about 12V charging and sleep-related failures
I think I picked up mine about the same time you did. The Pebble Scout AI told me it was the battery issue; maybe the tech was just reading that as well. Did your iPad die? We need to figure out how to get it to sleep without having to plug in the 7-pin.
Does plugging the 7-pin cable into the Pebble cause it to sleep?
No, plugging in the 7-pin cable does not cause the Pebble to sleep.
The Pebble Flow can only be woken from sleep using the POWER button in the Pebble app on the iPad. Sleep is a state managed through the app — the 7-pin connection is primarily used for 12V auxiliary power, including jump-starting the 12V battery, and trailer functions, not for sleep/wake control.
Does plugging the 7-pin into the Pebble cause the computer to restart or reset?
Plugging in the 7-pin cable can power on or “wake” the Pebble if the 12V battery is discharged — essentially acting as a jump-start. So there is a startup/power-on event possible when the 7-pin is connected, but whether this constitutes a restart of a normally-running system isn't something I can confirm.
For a definitive answer, I'd recommend contacting Pebble support directly.
So maybe the DC-to-DC charging is not charging the battery sufficiently before the 12V dies, or maybe we got a bad batch of batteries.
So maybe I need to build a 7-pin connector on a short cord that I can connect directly to an external battery for jump-start purposes, since my trailer is parked such that there is no access to the 7-pin connector from my truck.
Update: another owner posted a link for a premade 7-pin-to-battery cable in the gear & accessories channel.
