Pebble became unresponsive after sleep mode and iPad battery died
You need a Plastic Clip Removal Tool to get the pins out to access the 12V posts. Not as easy as it should be. 🙂
Overnight my trailer died. My iPhone would not connect and the iPad was dead when I got inside. I had put the trailer into sleep mode the night before. My Pebble was backwards in my driveway, so I could not connect my truck to the 7-pin connector.
I charged the battery with a 3A 12V charger and nothing happened. I charged the iPad overnight in my house. The next day I charged with a 20A 12V charger and nothing happened at first, then I called Pebble support. They said disconnect the iPad Pebble app and reconnect it to make the trailer come back to life.
Some combination of restarting the iPad Pebble app, charging the battery with a larger battery charger, leaving the main breaker off in the trailer while charging, and calling support seemed to eventually work. I had tried doing these things the day before without any luck. I hope this never happens again.
I think it might be safe to just leave the Pebble app off so it does not drain the iPad battery. Once the trailer is in sleep mode it no longer charges the iPad. That may have been the cause of the issue. But I did learn how to charge the battery.
AI said it was most likely a dead battery, so I just tried to charge it. I should have measured the voltage. My first charger did not have a meter built in; my second charger does have a voltage meter. It said it was 11 when I started. May or may not be accurate.
The dead battery in the iPad may have tricked me into thinking the 12V battery was also dead. But it was most likely the iPad going dead. When I store it I think I will shut the Pebble app down, which hopefully preserves the battery.
