iPad overheated in direct sun while DC fast charging

We're trying to charge our Pebble at a DC fast charger for the first time in Redding, California. Ambient temperature is 97°. We had to move the Pebble several charging bays over, and the iPad overheated because it was standing in the sun. That's not good.
